What Is A Hydronic Boiler?

How does Hydronic Heating Work?

Hydronic Heating is a heating system widely used across Europe and the United States that uses water pumped around a building to create consistent and silent heat throughout a space. Water is pumped from an on-site boiler typically heated by gas or LPG. It is then distributed through small pipes into the hydronic floor slab heating or radiator panels for heating.

Additionally, Hydronic heating is one of the safest forms of warming a room available. Hydronic floor slab and panel systems do not get very hot and can be touched with bare skin by people of all-ages. The boiler is completely safe, but it is recommended that the unit is situated in a part of the house that is not accessible to children.

Common Hydronic Heating Problems

AIR POCKETS IN RADIATORS

One way to check whether there is an issue with your radiator is to identify any cold areas of the radiator itself. A cold section or spot on a radiator is most likely a result of air or hydrogen within the system which further indicates that your system is inefficiently functioning. If left unattended and untreated, it will further restrict the flow of air and reduce the system’s ability to provide heated air in a space.

Boiler Noise

Having a noisy boiler can be a distinct indicator of your heating system having a problem. The noises you hear could be due to multiple different factors, with the most common reason being due to a buildup of dirt and waste in the boiler. The build up of grime tends to increase the pressure on particular parts of the boiler, causing other parts of the boiler to become overworked.

Failing Circulator Pumps

Pressure to the system’s heating pump can be due to a lack of maintenance, where your system has been left untreated and unserviced for a long period of time. Heat pumps often tend to wear out more easily due to the increased bearing, potentially resulting in the pump’s failure.
